Duties

Help

As a Public Health Advisor, you will:

  • Serve as a principal representative responsible for coordinated controversial, unconventional, or novel public health related matters between and among Federal, local, state, and international agencies addressing public health issues.
  • Identify public health product problems and issues as they relate to unsafe or ineffective use by lay users or health professionals.
  • Research and analyze the causes of product problems that are caused by a variety of factors.
  • Establish and or apply evaluation criteria and standards for multiple programs to measure monitor and ensure standards of adequacy, legal and regulatory compliance requirements, and program effectiveness are met.
  • Design, develop, implement, manage and evaluate all aspects of a complex, politically sensitive, or developmental special project or program within an assigned area.
  • Perform difficult and complex advisory and assistance functions.
  • Provide comprehensive technical and administrative advice and assistance to an assigned domestic or international project or program.
  • Plan, implement and present training systems for health practitioners, researchers, and other professionals
  • Conduct and/or assist in the development and delivery of training courses (e.g., community planning, prevention and intervention, outreach strategies, data collection, etc.); and assists with special studies and/or demonstrations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
GS 12
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS- 11 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing support and assistance to governmental and/or non-governmental organizations on public health projects and programs such as communicable diseases, infectious diseases, maternal and child health or reproductive health.

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing advice and assistance to governmental and non-government organizations in the planning, evaluation, or improvement of public health programs such as communicable diseases, infectious diseases, maternal and child health or reproductive health.

In an effort to ensure CDC is best positioned to resume hiring after the hiring freeze expires and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)/Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issues a joint plan to reduce the size of the Federal Government's workforce, CDC will continue its recruitment efforts (post job vacancy announcements, evaluate and screen applicants, interview, etc.).

This position will not be filled and no job offers will be made until resolution of the HHS hiring freeze, or the position qualifies for a hiring exemption and is approved pursuant to HHS guidance.
