The duties of this position also include such heavy tasks as furniture cleaning and arrangement, movement of desks and other heavy furniture, requesting and storing supplies, collection and removal of trash or waste, replenishing dispensers, hanging curtains or draperies, cleaning elevators, restrooms, designated smoking areas, drinking fountains, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Incumbent may be assigned to any designated area throughout the Medical Center for the accomplishment of housekeeping task necessary to maintain the assigned areas in an aseptically clean and visibly attractive manner. This may involve assignments to various tasks on a day-to-day basis.

The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of all cleaning supplies used, including proper mixture and safe economical utilization. The incumbent must adhere to specific written methods, techniques and procedures, and/or oral/written instructions of the supervisor.

Employee must be able to read and write, have the ability to understand chemical labels, have some degree of mechanical aptitude, and have the ability to learn new methods and procedures for accomplishing assignments

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Possible tours include: Monday - Friday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, 6:45 am - 3:30 pm, 11:30 am - 8:00 pm, 3:30 pm - Midnight, 7:45 am - 4:30 pm and 10-hour shift 3:30 pm - 2:00 am Friday - Monday. Incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.

1. Ability to work as a Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision.
2. Skills and knowledge of work practices where work areas must be kept clean, neat, sanitary and in order.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

The duties of this position include all phases of cleaning and special techniques in the scope of institutional housekeeping such as dust mopping, dusting, wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping/refinishing, buffing, window and wall washing, bed washing/making, and or related duties in areas, which may include steps, ramps, docks, entrances, and stairs. Incumbent must select and prepare for use, industrial cleaning equipment such as battery-powered scrubbing machines, polishers, vacuums, shampooing machines, pressure washers, and other electrical appliances. Employee is responsible for the proper use, cleaning, and storage of this equipment.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
