As aRecreation Assistant, NF-0189-02 , the incumbents is responsible for:

  • Attending nationally recognized lifeguard training and obtaining certification; and
  • Assisting in preparing the pool to open for the season.

Position-specific Conditions of Employment
A. Must be able to pass the Lifeguard Pre-requisite swim test which includes:

  1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  2. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
  3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
  • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
B. Obtain Hepatitis B vaccination series
C. Shift work including weekends, holidays, and nights.

General Conditions of Employment

1. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of application submission date.

This position does not have an education requirement, nor can education be substituted for experience.

Salaries:
Installation Mgmt-Ops Columbus - $14.00 per hour
Installation Mgmt-Ops Richmond - $13.50 per hour
Installation Mgmt-Ops Susquehanna - $14.50 per hour

Bargaining Unit Status
Installation Operations Columbus & Richmond- This is a bargaining unit position.
Installation Operations Susquehanna - This is not a bargaining unit position.

This position is a Flexible position. You may be regularly scheduled or scheduled on an as needed basis, but there are no guaranteed hours. Flex employees are not entitled to leave or benefits.

These are "seasonal" positions. Selectees will be inprocessed upon selection; however, will not receive a schedule until shortly before Memorial Day through Labor Day. After Labor Day, the incumbent may remain an employee; however, he/she will not be scheduled until the following pool season.

180-day Restriction for Military Retirees: Military retirees are unable to be appointed to NAF positions for 180 days after their retirement date, as documented on their DD-214. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
