Summary

About the Position: This position is located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in the Allergy/Immunology/Immunization Clinic. This clinic specifically provides allergy shots, immunizations, skin testing, pulmonary function testing, patient education, IV infusions, and blood draws. Hours of duty are 0715-1615 which includes an hour for lunch.

At the WRNMMC, parking is very limited and use of public transportation is recommended.

Duties

Help
  • Perform minor treatment procedures, such as; basic wound care, oxygen and nebulizer treatments, managing IV's, etc.
  • Set up medical suppies and equipment for procedures.
  • Utilize an electronic medical/healthcare system to input or retrieve data in the patient's medical record/chart.
  • Educate patients on health, disease management, and test results.
  • Communicate with patients on a regular basis via phone and secure messaging.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position has specific background investigation and periodic re-investigation requirements since its duties require contact with children.

  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Requirements for Practical Nurse:

Licensure: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Candidates that do not currently have a license but have applied for one must furnish the date which you applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved.

Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as; providing nursing care to patients, performing phlebotomy and IV access, and documenting patient charts in an electronic medical record. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service, GS-05, or equivalent.
