Duties

Help

Major duties may include, but are not limited to:

Analyzing the merits of possible solutions and then designing, constructing, testing, and calibrating various electronic components and electrical transducers.

Preparing circuit diagrams and reporting on new equipment and circuits designed and built.

Visiting remote field sites for maintaining, installing, and repairing electronic instrumentation and climbing towers to access instrumentation and collecting the necessary data.

Using appropriate computer software in assembling and tabulating data and responsible for obtaining data on samples with various electronic instruments.

Maintaining and repairing extensive project radio communication and remote sensing telemetry networks. Planning and carrying out preventive maintenance and periodic calibration of all recording systems.

Qualification Requirements at the GS-07:

Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in the installation and maintenance of electronic equipment used in research activities; extracting data and measurements from testing instruments; and assisting in constructing and testing electronic components or electrical transducers.

OR

Education Substitution: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in a major which is directly related to the work of this position including electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology.

OR

A Combination:
of education and experience as shown above.

Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience installing and maintaining electronic equipment used in research activities; extracting data and measurements from testing instruments; constructing and testing electronic components or electrical transducers; and assisting in operating electronic data acquisition systems.

OR

Education Substitution: Successful completion of two full years of graduate education in a major which is directly related to the work of this position including electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology.

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above.
