Duties

Help

Major duties may include, but are not limited to:

Performing a variety of routine tests in accordance with established methods including setting up, adjusting and operating equipment, constructing, modifying, and assembling equipment

Maintaining and repairing equipment used in conducting research experiments

Examining equipment during operation for faults or defects which may affect the accuracy of the data

Performing computations either manually or by using computers

Determining whether test data falls within normal limits and determining apparent causes of deviations in the test data resulting from equipment malfunctions, observational errors, and other causes

Reporting data inconsistencies and deficiencies due to equipment and observational errors

Recording instrument readings, assembling and tabulating collected data, maintaining supplies

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including the following specialized experience and/or education, as identified below.

Qualification Requirements at the GS-04:
Qualifying experience for GS-04 includes at least 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience. For this position general experience is defined as (1) any type of work that demonstrates the applicants ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in the construction, set up, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment; and recording and tabulating collected data.

OR

Education: successful completion of 2 years of post-secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

OR

A combination of education and experience.



Qualification Requirements at the GS-05:
Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience constructing, setting up, maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment; recording, tabulating and evaluating collected data; and presenting and summarizing research results.

OR

Education : successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

A combination of education and experience.
