Duties

Help

Develops comprehensive analyses and reports, enhancing reports with link charts that visually diagram associations of varying data points that provide scientific and quantitative information to OIG decision-makers who use that data to enhance accountability throughout DOL programs.

Uses analytical techniques to identify persons, businesses, and financial data to expand the scope of active investigations, and develop viable leads to facilitate new investigations.

Incorporates business process improvement methodologies to streamline data manipulation and report compilation; this will assist in identifying long-term trends and emerging issues to enhance how DOL/OIG conducts its mission.

Cleans disparate data from multiple sources and formats in preparation for use in - modeling and ad-hoc analytics using skills and experience related to computer science, including, but not limited to, using a variety of state-of-the art programming languages such as JAVA, R, Python, Anaconda, SQL, C++, SAS and customized programming scripts.

Develop, test, and/or adapt technical solutions using advanced concepts of computer science theory, computer systems and software organization to capture and analyze network traffic data to solve business problems.

Serves as a database technology expert - uses external and internal data sources, including how the data is gathered, stored, and retrieved.

Permanent Change of Station Funds (PCS) will not be offered. Relocation Incentives will not be offered.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience: Must possess the following specialized experience, which includes: (a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; (b) specialized knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of systems having the ability to transform information, and of broad areas of applications of computing which have common structures, processes, and techniques; and (c) knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences. Expertise in using JAVA, R, Python, Anaconda, SQL, C++, SAS and/or customized programming scripts.

Position is at the full performance level GS-14.

This position is outside the Bargaining Unit.

This position will not be filled until the Department's Placement Assistance Programs have been fully utilized.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Evaluation of Education:

Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
