Duties

Help

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Applying initiative and resourcefulness in planning non routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity
  • Selecting appropriate guidelines to resolve operational problems not fully covered by precedents
  • Developing revisions to standard work methods and procedures
  • Constructing, assembling, and installing new equipment, and making modifications and repairs to experimental or other equipment
  • Assembling, installing, commissioning, and operating industrial control, HVAC, and refrigeration systems 
  • Selecting the best methods for presenting data and prepares drafts, drawings, charts, graphs, figures, and reports illustrating and summarizing research results
  • Assisting research scientists in making accurate research interpretations and drawing accurate conclusions

At the GS-07

Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in the development and planning of assignments for an agricultural program; planning, installing, modifying and calibrating instrumentation for collecting research data; and utilizing computer software to assemble, tabulate, and analyze collected data.

OR

One full year of graduate education or a masters degree that is directly related to the work of the position

OR

A combination of education and experience


At the GS-08

Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in the development and planning of assignments for an agricultural program; planning, installing, modifying and calibrating instrumentation for collecting research data; utilizing computer software to assemble, tabulate, and analyze collected data, and searching for literature pertinent engineering for new procedures or techniques.

Two full years of graduate education or a masters degree that is directly related to the work of the position

OR

A combination of education that is directly related to the work of the position and experience

Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
