Duties

Help

The employee works in the operation, repair, and preventative facility maintenance duties including, but not limited to, electrical, heating, ventilation, and plumbing maintenance work assignments independently.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Providing diagnostic services, repair, or replacement of heating water pumps, chilled water pumps, circulation pumps, ventilation equipment, water heaters, steam and hot water systems, air conditioning, gas fired furnaces, bearings, belts, steam traps, flood control valves, pipe insulation, pumps, electrical and plumbing fixtures.
  • Performing plumbing on water, air, gas pipes using stainless steel, plastic, copper and brass pipes.
  • Maintaining all types of steam handling equipment ill the area, traps, injector regulators, multi-port valves, and pop-off valves.
  • Assisting in the repair of direct digital control (CODC) and computer operated building management systems (BMS).
  • Using tools, gauges, and testing equipment for duties with building automation systems and multi meters.
  • Use maintenance and repair manuals and blueprints that are pertinent to the operation of equipment in the center.

Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. If selected you may be subject to a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and a credit report inquiry. Special Agency Check (SAC) and full background investigation required for positions working with BSL-3 (or higher) agents, or in BSL-3/BSL-4 facilities.

This position requires the selectee to undergo a pre-employment check and a full background investigation. Any offer made is considered a tentative job offer pending the outcome of the pre-employment check. Retention in the position is based upon a favorable adjudication of the background investigation. The incumbent will be subject to periodic reinvestigations.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires lifting, pushing and carrying objects of various weights, sizes and shapes. Efforts to complete movements require walking, climbing, bending or crawling. Long periods of walking and standing required.

Working Conditions:

Work may be performed outdoors under extreme weather, and dusty conditions may prevail. Incumbent is subject to periods of excessive noise when exposed to and using equipment. Some work is done on scaffolding, ladders and rooftops. Hazardous conditions exist while working with or around cutting tools.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc.  You must have the ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-08, without more than normal supervision (Screen Out). Applicants who do not meet the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT will not be given further consideration.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Category placement will be determined based on applicants quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
