Duties

Help
  • Advise Garrison Chaplain on multiple faith groups for medium size installation; providing guidance on matters of religious education, youth ministry, administration, and coordination of the program.
  • Review and evaluate religious education and youth ministry needs and programs to develop curriculum, theological instruction, teacher training and volunteer requirements and advise on appropriate courses of action to improve programming.
  • Guide and train both Religious education and youth ministry specialists on leadership and instruction skills.
  • Review policies from higher headquarters and advise on actions necessary to establish policy framework for religious education and youth ministry.
  • Assess religious education needs of enlisted personnel, married couples, noncommissioned officers, officers, military, civilians, family members, contractors and retirees through use of surveys, questionnaires and personal community involvement.
  • Determine requirements for specific faith classes/courses and establish their priority in view of available time and resources, project schedules and relationship to the objectives of the total education program under constantly changing situations.
  • Develop appropriated and non-appropriated portion of the Garrison Chaplain's Master Religious Program budgeting and planning document.
  • Establish requirement and distribute information on deployment resources for all faith groups and coordinate with regional joint service religious education and youth ministry networks.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications (See Army Regulation AR 165-1):
- A Master of Religious Education degree or its equivalent from an accredited graduate school, and a minimum of 5 years of documented professional specialized experience leading to a religious education program.
OR
- A Graduate Degree in any discipline other than religious education which includes a minimum of 24 documented credits in religious education theory and practice or spiritual formation and a minimum of 5 years of documented specialized professional religious education experience.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
* Knowledge of Religious Education Program Management
* Skill in planning and directing a Religious Education course and curriculum
* Knowledge of Religious Education programs

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
The Chief of Chaplains requires that only applicants who have been certified at a grade level equivalent to or higher than the stated grade of this position or those currently serving in a validated Army RE position will be considered fully qualified.
