Duties

Help

Major duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Working with the USNA Director and the Gardens Unit Leader to lead the development and implementation of educational and interpretive programs and efforts.
  • Conducting and coordinating annual recruitment, as well as periodic targeted recruitments, to meet staff needs for volunteers and interns.
  • Evaluating program components and making recommendations for change and expansion.
  • Developing methods and means for stakeholders, volunteers, and supervisors to provide feedback for the volunteer and intern programs.
  • Working closely with managers and other staff to identify volunteer and intern needs.
  • Making selections for positions, assigning duties, reviewing work, approving/disapproving leave and evaluating performance.
  • Motivating and guiding employees, ensuring staff is appropriately utilized and developed
  • Adapting leadership style to various situations.

Specialized Experience:  Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled.  Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised.  The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

At the GS-11: 
Qualifying experience for GS- 11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS- 09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in developing and implementing educational or interpretive programs; analyzing program operations and providing recommendations for change and expansion; participating in recruiting efforts of volunteers and interns; and preparing training materials for program participants.

OR

Education:
Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

OR

A combination of education and experience.

At the GS-12: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience developing and implementing educational or interpretive programs; evaluating program components and providing recommendations for change and expansion; developing training materials for program participants; recruiting and managing volunteers and interns; providing guidance regarding educational and interpretive programs to internal and external stakeholders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
