Help

As a Financial Economist, you will:

  • Review and analyze a substantial number of legislative proposals related to Federal credit programs each year.
  • Interact with other offices within Treasury, other Departments, and the Office of Management and Budget to ensure that Treasury’s policies are followed.
  • Draft sophisticated, in-depth economic research and studies covering a wide range of government financing matters including, but not limited to: federal investing, federal borrowing, loan guarantee programs, and Federal Credit Reform Act (FCRA) accounting and budgeting implications for review by senior Treasury officials and economists.
  • Assist senior economists in assessing the risks and benefits of specific lending or loan guarantee agreements including, but not limited to: counterparty analysis, proposed terms and conditions, FCRA scoring implications, compliance with federal statutes, regulations, and policies, and adherence to policy goals.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Conducting financial or statistical analysis on financial markets, federal investments, public debt markets, or state and local finance; AND
- Making economic policy or strategy recommendations to senior managers or executives; AND
- Contributing to research reports regarding financial markets, public debt markets, state and local financial policy, or federal investments.

Education

Education Requirements:

A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR
B. Combination of education and experience- courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Examples of qualifying experience include: (a) individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; (b) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or (c) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
