Help

Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collecting, preparing, evaluating and verifying crop and soil samples and supporting records.
  • Preparing solutions and reagents for use in a laboratory or field.
  • Collecting various samples or data to assist in evaluating complex biological interactions
  • Assisting with the technical planning and sequencing of the experimental design and execution related to the development and improvement of agronomic systems.
  • Recording and tabulating data using personal computers and software packages.
  • Maintaining, calibrating or modifying specialized farming equipment.

Subject to satisfactory completion of a one year trial period.

Applicant must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring walking or bending.  The work involves regular and recurring moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working with dust, allergans, irritant chemicals or working outdoors.  The employee is required to use provided protective clothing such as gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves.

Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

At the GS-05:

Qualifying experience for the GS-05 level includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting and processing samples in field or laboratory settings; recording and tabulating experimental data using computers and software packages; and operating and maintaining laboratory or farm equipment.

OR

Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics . At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related. Related degrees include Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, Microbiology, and Plant Biology or related.

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above.

At the GS-07:

Qualifying experience for the GS-07 level includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting and processing samples in field or laboratory settings; summarizing research data using computers and software packages; contributing to the planning and sequencing of the technical aspects of experimental design and execution; and operating and maintaining farm or laboratory equipment.

OR

Education: successful completion of at least one full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters’ or equivalent graduate degree, related degrees include Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, Microbiology, and Plant Biology or related.

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
