Duties

Help
  • You will use hand tools of the trade (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, cable pullers) to perform electrical work.
  • You will follow schematics to install and operate electrical equipment (e.g., light switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, outlets).
  • You will install electrical components (e.g., outlets, relays, switches, fixtures, circuits) in new and existing electrical systems.
  • You will recognize defects in electrical systems or circuitry (e.g., overheating motors or transformers, broken wires, blown fuses).

  • May be required to obtain and maintain current licenses to operate Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and/or construction equipment.
  • May require special certificatoin of license if assigned work requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment.
  • May be required to become CPR certified.
  • This position may be considered essential and the incumbent will be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations.
  • Incumbent must be able to wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet the requirements of the duties being performed.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the a Electrician without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Repair and maintain electrical components, fixtures, and wiring in buildings, facilities, and structures in compliance with National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings. 2) Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls; 3) Replace worn or bad switches, relays, and outlets by unscrewing or cutting wiring from connections, inserting the replacement, and splicing, tightening, and soldering wiring to connections; and 4) Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot equipment using 600 volts and below including 120, 208, 240, 277 and 480 volts.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Work from ladder, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places requiring long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh 20-40 lbs and, occasionally, may lift or move heavier equipment with assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed both inside and out. May be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather. May work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

A forty-hour work week is typical for this position.
