Duties

Help

  • Independently conducts sensitive, complex investigations into allegations involving senior DoD officials, and other special reviews as directed.
  • Determines investigative issues and scope of each case from written documents.
  • Produces written reports of investigation containing facts and evidence established in each case; an in depth analysis of the evidence in light of applicable law, rule and regulation; conclusions regarding the propriety of the action(s) at issue.
  • Reports include recommendations for appropriate corrective action.
  • Conducts oversight reviews of senior official investigations conducted by Inspectors General of the Military Departments and Defense Agencies.
  • Briefs DoD OIG management, other senior DoD officials, Members of Congress and their staffs on the status and results of investigations, oversight reviews, and special reviews.
  • Reviews incoming complaints against DoD senior officials and makes course of action recommendations to ISO leadership.
  • As a Senior Official Investigator, you will conduct sensitive and complex senior official investigations into allegations against senior officials within the DoD.

Position has been designated as Critical. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Unless you have already completed a creditable probationary period, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

The incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense (DoD) OIG. Organizational entities with the DoD are not required to conduct drug testing for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service within the DoD, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: planning and conducting complex investigations, to include: interviewing witnesses; gathering and analyzing relevant evidence; and writing reports of investigation.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:

  • Skill in compiling and analyzing evidence
  • Skill in planning investigations
  • Skill in writing reports of investigation
  • Ability to communicate with senior officials
  • Skill in performing quality assurance reviews of investigations
  • Knowledge of Ethics and Standards of Conduct laws and regulations
