Duties

Help

As a ARTILLERY REPAIRER (Title 32) with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Performs maintenance on the electrical system of the turrets. Repairs the stabilization control systems, circuit breakers, distribution boxes, cables, and wiring system, points and all other electrical components in the turret. Replaces Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
  • Tests and repairs electrical test sets that are used to test the electrical systems of the tank turret. Follows schematic diagrams and relays to determine if there is malfunction in the test equipment.
  • Repairs the hydraulic system, which provides the pressure to elevate and traverse the gun and rotate the turret. Repairs hydraulic valves which control the motion to ensure safety, these are controlled by electrical solenoids. Repairs the hydraulic motors, the elevating systems, the recoil systems and all other hydraulic parts and components in the turret.
  • Repairs all mechanical parts involved in turret traversing, such as the traversing gearbox including the clutch assembly, and turret races including cupola bearings. Repairs the gears and bearings in the gearbox. Repairs all small gear drive components including those required to raise and lower the gun.
  • Services the gun by exercising the recoil system to check for leaks in the seals. Borescopes the gun tube to check for wear. Makes recoil adapter readings to determine that the adapter and collar are serviceable.
  • May also work on ITVs, howitzers, and other less complex equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Army National Guard. Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Need not have MOS to apply. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military duty position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the MOS within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Specialized Experience Required
To qualify at the WG-10 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 12 months experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics..
