Duties

Help

Incumbent works in the Environmental Management Services of Facilities Management Services at Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC). Employee provides non-technical services to patients and in support of direct patient care activities at the ward level. Performs simple tasks of a repetitive nature that have an effect on the comfort and wellbeing of hospitalized patients as follows:

  • Strip linens from bed and clean discharged patients units which include cleaning all parts of the bed and mattress, over bed table, beside stand, patient chair, patient locker, over bed light, spot washing walls, and other requirements necessary to prepare a clean unit for a patient.
  • Cleans units on weekend and evenings, which is coordinated with the Nurse Care Coordinator as a priority of cleaning.
  • Provide escort services for discharged patients.
  • Remove trash, at designated times, from patient rooms during the evening tour and take it to the soiled utility area.
  • Other assigned duties.
Primary Duty Location: Lake Nona
Work schedule: Incumbent may be assigned to 2nd Shift (3:30pm - Midnight) or 3rd Shift (Midnight - 8:30am)

The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/24/2018.

Experience.

  • You must have six months of generalized experience equivalent that demonstrates the your ability to perform the work of the position, or that provided you a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Generalized experience may include performing tasks similar to the following or tasks which prepared you to do the following: Cleaning patient care areas, nursing desks, and medical equipment; providing patient comfort, changing linens and preparing patient beds, patient laundry to include washing and hanging/folding, escorting discharged patients, disposing of contaminated waste materials, working as part of a team in a diverse and fast paced environment, delivering items or performing tasks at designated times, staying cognizant of surroundings and protocols to ensure personal and patient safety.

Education:
  • Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-3 level. Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields. (Transcripts required)

Combination of education and experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. [for example - 3 months of general experience (50% of requirement) and 6 months of qualifying education (50% of requirement) would meet the minimum qualifications for this vacancy.] (Transcripts required)

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs. or over), Heavy Carrying (45 lbs. or over), Pushing (1 hour), Reaching over shoulder, Use of fingers, Both hands required, Walking (8 hours), Standing (8 hours), Kneeling (8 hours), Repeated bending (1 hour), Both legs required, Able to read policies and procedures.
