Summary

Two positions will be filled--one at each of the following locations:   

1)  Daniel Boone National Forest on the Cumberland Ranger District , Stanton KY
2)  Klamath National Forest on the Happy Camp Ranger District, Happy Camp, CA

Duties

" Duties at the Full Performance Level"

Analyzes archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable. Makes recommendations to be used in "determinations of effect" and "determinations of eligibility" by the archaeologist. Applies scientific methods to survey parcels of land to determine likely sites of archeological interest.

Adapts ground search strategies as determined by specific project requirements i.e., terrain, vegetation cover, and time frames. Produces site and survey maps. Transfers GPS data to a GIS Arc View program loaded in a computer to create a map.

Qualifications

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

1) EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience include: Monitoring archaeological projects to ensure sufficiency of on-site surveying and recording; preparing reports, such as cultural resource inventories, that document project’s environmental and cultural backgrounds, methodologies, and findings; identifying and recording on maps or aerial photographs the exact locations and orientations of artifacts found.

2) EDUCATION: Successful completion of 1 year of graduate level education (18 semester/27 quarter hours) with coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as archaeology, anthropology, or history);

3) EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience as listed above. The combined total of education and experience must equal 100%.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Applicants with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
