Summary

The School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) is seeking a scholar of strategic or security studies to begin summer, 2019; a specialization in space policy, space law, and space history, or technology and innovation is highly desirable. The faculty develops and presents a year long graduate curriculum designed to educate strategists in the art of strategic studies, enhancing the Air Force's capacity to defend the U.S. through the control and exploitation of air, space, and cyberspace.

Duties

Help

The duties of this position include teaching graduate seminars, mentoring students (from academics to writing), and supervising research projects. SAASS expects each faculty member to create graduate-level curriculum and deliver material using a Socratic method. Service includes a range of activities from school administration to support for mission requirements at the University, the Air Force, or the Department of Defense.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in History, Political Science or International Relations or closely related fields with a focus on International Security Studies.
A specialization in space policy, space law, space history, or technology and innovation is highly desirable.

The position will be an initial three year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 3-5 year terms.

Tax Law Impact for PCS: On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025. The law made taxable certain reimbursements and other payments, including driving mileage, airfare and lodging expenses, en-route travel to the new duty station, and temporary storage of those items. The Federal Travel Regulation Bulletin (FTR) 18-05 issued by General Services Administration (GSA) has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) and Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
