Duties

Help
  • Analyzing economic issues on questions that arise in the context of policy, rulemaking or enforcement matters.
  • Applying academic research and empirical methods in support of Commission actions and regulatory programs, and are expected to engage in independent research directed at top-tier professional journals.
  • Providing economic guidance and research expertise to a broad range of activities, including rulemaking, enforcement actions, market oversight and monitoring, and other regulatory initiatives

  • You must have approval from your employer to serve on an IPA appointment.

  • This position is NOT in the collective bargaining unit.
  • This is a temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year from date of agreement and can be extended up to two years.
  • Assignees are detailed to the SEC and remain employees of their parent organization for all purposes except that they are subject to certain Federal and SEC regulations.
  • The SEC may authorize either per diem allowance or relocation expenses for an IPA assignee.
  • Assignees continue to be paid by their parent organization. The SEC may reimburse the parent organization for the allowable amount of compensation.
  • Assignees to the SEC are not eligible to participate in Federal retirement, group life insurance, or health benefits programs.
  • This position is located in Washington, D.C. - with limited opportunities for placement in regional offices, for qualified selectees.

Qualifications

  • Education: a Ph.D. in economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics, or similarly quantitative field.
  • Experience: evidence of a strong research background in the evaluation and interpretation of economic information.
  • Must have, and retain throughout the contract, a permanent faculty position at a U.S. university or college.
