Duties

Help

Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting field research to sustain and enhance agricultural production with neutral to positive impacts on environmental quality for rangeland agroecosystems.
  • Maintaining and calibrating instrumentation to examine ecological process and mechanism responses to adaptive management, seasonal weather variability, extreme events, and predicted climatic variability on agricultural production and ecosystem services for representative rangeland agroecosystems
  • Providing essential support to a research team through collection, data quality, research, and assurance and control using highly specialized and sophisticated sensor equipment and infrastructure primarily related to water, energy and carbon fluxes and balances.
  • Writing technical reports that detail methods used and interpretation of results

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

To qualify at the 0408 series:


Degree: biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.

At the GS-11

Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in field research efforts to sustain and enhance agricultural production with neutral to positive impacts on environmental quality for agroecosystems; providing support to research teams by maintaining and calibrating sophisticated sensor networked field instrumentation related to influences of adaptive management, seasonal weather variability, extreme events, and predicted climatic variability on agricultural production and ecosystem services; and providing, analyzing, and summarizing collected data for use in technical and scientific reports.

OR

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, if related. Related degrees include Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources and Management, Ecology, Biology, and Biometeorology.
