Duties

Help
  • You will analyze, process, and make available born-digital and digitized records in digital formats
  • You will manage electronic files and databases with the Navy mandated records system and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
  • You will execute digital and electronic postings to the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) website
  • You will apply appropriate digital preservation techniques for electronic records maintained in the archives

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government OR a Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience performing professional archival work in appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historic documents equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following:1) Analyzing and processing born-digital and digitized records in digital formats; 2) Preserving electronic files and databases within a National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) mandated document management system; 3) Preserving the original format of permanent records when executing digital preservation procedures including image capture, data migration, and metadata creation; and 4) Improving access to digital and electronic collections of records and images of historical significance.
