Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Writer-Editor in the Publishing Division, Army Publishing Directorate. Some responsibilities include:
  • Reviews work of the Army Publishing Directorate (APD) staff and action officers for editorial quality and consistency and compliance with established style, format, content guidance, accuracy, and appropriateness.
  • Develops and implements the agency's editorial policies, practices, guidelines, and standards. Provides authoritative guidance on editorial matters to personnel.
  • Reviews and analyzes congressional legislation and policy, as well as direction and guidance from higher authorities (such as DOD, the Joint Staff, and so on) for program impact and implication on the Army.
  • Provides technical guidance and support on a variety of special projects and assignments, such as preparing congressional testimony, written products.
  • Coordinates and recommends appropriate guidance for the publishing of Army wide policy.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as managing multiple publishing projects simultaneously from inception until publication; experience developing publication policies and procedures for an organization; and experience in electronic publishing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional information

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
