Duties

Help
  • Organize case files for Master Calendar Hearings.
  • Generate, assemble, and provide required case files to the Immigration Judge.
  • Provide assistance in processing inquiries, legal notices, and calendaring processes and procedures.
  • Process legal correspondence and legal documents.
  • Process motions, petitions, and other legal documentation.
  • Prepare reports and maintain/edit case-related data and information using an automated information system.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This announcement is open to current career/career-conditional employees of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). Applicants MUST submit their recent SF-50(s) reflecting this status.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-9 level. One year at the GS-9 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. (Please submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade.

In order to qualify for the Legal Administrative Specialist (In-Court Services) position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

GS-9
Specialized Experience:
One or more years of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service performing duties related to: 1) coordinating processing actions related to court proceedings by generating, pulling, organizing, assembling, and providing case files; 2) processing legal correspondence and legal documents; and 3) providing assistance in processing inquires, legal notices, and calendaring processes and procedures.

OR
Education:
I have successfully completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or masters or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.B. or J.D. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts for verification.)
OR
Combination:
I do not possess the full amount of experience described in A above or the full amount of graduate education described in B above. However, I have a percentage of the experience and a percentage of the education which when combined totals 100% of the necessary experience and education needed to qualify for this position. (Only graduate education beyond one year, i.e., 18 semester hours, may be combined with experience under this provision.) NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts for verification.

GS-11
Specialized Experience: One or more years of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing duties related to: 1) analyzing and evaluating administrative and legal cases for hearings; 2) processing court related actions during court proceedings by providing required case files; 3) providing technical assistance in processing inquiries, legal notices, and calendaring processes and procedures; and 4) processing motions, petitions, and other legal documentation.

OR
Education:
I have successfully completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts for verification.)
OR
Combination:
I do not possess the full amount of experience described in A above or the full amount of graduate education described in B above. However, I have a percentage of the experience and a percentage of the education which when combined totals 100% of the necessary experience and education needed to qualify for this position. (Only graduate education beyond two years, i.e., 36 semester hours, may be combined with experience under this provision.) NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts for verification.

GS-12
Specialized Experience: One or more years of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing duties related to: 1) coordinating processing actions with supporting documents during court proceedings by providing required case files; 2) overseeing courtroom functions and operations; 3) preparing and sending legal correspondence and legal documents; 4) providing assistance with electronic filing, scanning, and printing of documents; and 5) acting as a liaison between the court and the public, respondents, counsel, and attorneys.
