Help

This position is located in the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC). The primary purpose of this position is to plan, implement, administer, and counsel on the FFSC programs concerning work and family life issues including information and referral (I&R), and follow-up services to military members, retirees, and family members.  Incumbent serves as a non-clinical consultant on a wide variety of work and family life issues and concerns.  Interviews, assesses clients’ needs and concerns, such as relocation, career resource development, and personal financial issues.  Evaluates and interprets data received from interviews.  Identifies and clarifies issues/concerns and determines appropriate referrals either within FFSC or civilian/military community.  Assists clients in prioritizing issues and developing plans and goals that are tailored to specific needs and concerns.  Provides advice, guidance and additional referral options to clients. Monitors and tracks each case to evaluate and ensure customer service and client satisfaction. Periodically reviews cases with the Regional WFL/Education Program Manager or FFSC Site Manager, recommending and carrying out appropriate actions to resolve concerns.  Incumbent may be required to serve as non-clinical consultant and instructor in one or more of the following specialty areas:  Career Resource Development, Relocation Services, Personal Financial Management, and Command Representative and Marketing.

Satisfactorily complete a formal background check and maintain security suitability requirements.  Regular and recurring work performed sitting at a desk and sitting in conferences and meetings.  May require some travel to different offices, military and civilian.  Hours may vary according to client needs.  May be required to board Navy vessels to provide FFSC programs to crewmembers while ship is in port or underway.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of social services delivery systems and concepts, principles, and theories relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields to assess needs and concerns of clients and understand how social or behavioral patterns or attitudes impact and affect work and family life issues.

  • Experience in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns and issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services and options.

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interacting with Commands, individuals, families, military and community agencies, and FFSC staff.

  • Experience in working with social service delivery systems in the military and civilian community and gaining knowledge of individual agencies’ policies and procedures and establishing agreements.

  • Experience in using various computer software database, spreadsheet, word processing, and network programs such as Internet, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SITES, and other FFSC databases.
