This position is located in the Kyle Health Center of the Pine Ridge Service Unit within the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of this position is to serve as staff dentist to provide dental health services to eligible pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and beneficiaries at nursing homes and schools served by the eligible designated population in accordance with Indian Health Service policies.
Summary
This position is located in the Kyle Health Center of the Pine Ridge Service Unit within the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of this position is to serve as staff dentist to provide dental health services to eligible pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and beneficiaries at nursing homes and schools served by the eligible designated population in accordance with Indian Health Service policies.
Provide direct dental care services of a scope, quality and quantity consistent with IHS, Great Plains Area and Service unit Policies.
Performs restoration and cavities with standard and prescribed materials. Administers local anesthesia. Performs single and multiple extractions of teeth and treats periodontal disease.
Establishes relationships with tribal groups, clinical staff and HIS personnel to facilitate(s) appropriate health care provisions.
Provides prevention, corrective and controls oral health services to patients according to IHS priorities. Prevention services includes clinical fluoride program and fluoridation of community water supplies. Conducts an integrated oral health program with other services.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education
Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level.
Medical Requirements
Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
