Summary

About the Position: Permanent seasonal position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Operations Division, Physical Support Branch, Revetment Section.

Announcement establishes a pool of candidates to fill current and future positions. Applications accepted continuously during the 6-month open period. Duties

Help
  • Hooks and unhooks lifting frame from concrete mattress sections in congested areas in close proximity to cranes or derrickboats.
  • Guides pickup frame to loads and guides load into place when being lowered by crane.
  • Fastens or unfastens slings, rigging, etc., for loads in movement by crane or derrickboat during revetment construction operations.
  • Operates semi-automatic tying tool to fasten side sections of two concrete mattress squares together and to launching cable.
  • Determines proper positioning of tool prior to inserting wire and activating in order to prevent damage to tool or stoppage of operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Duties of position meet compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Includes pre-employment screening, random testing thereafter, and testing for reasonable suspicion and direct involvement with on-duty accident.
  • Permanent seasonal position-annually recurring periods of work that typically last six months each year, but may vary depending upon the needs of management. Non-duty, non-pay status in the off-season and recalled to duty the following work season.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 75% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift and/or carry over 40 pounds in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Seasonal signifies an annually, recurring period of employment of less than 2087 hours per year. During non-work periods you will be placed in a non-duty, non-pay status. Duty Station: Memphis, TN.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Revetment Worker without more than normal supervision. Hooking and unhooking lifting frames from concrete mattress sections; guiding pickup frame to loads, guiding loads into place. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is required to manipulate the mattress sections which weigh 6,000 lbs to 46,000 lbs. depending on the number of sections being lifted. This is substantially the same as lifting or carrying 40 or more pounds. The physical effort described occurs in more than 50% of the total work cycle.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily outside under all types of weather conditions. Subject to dust, noise, and extremes in heat and cold. For considerable amount of time is in danger of moving machinery, swinging loads, falling overboard, etc.

  • Two year probationary period may be required.
