Duties

Help

The Program Support Assistant-Timekeeper maintains time and attendance records and controls in accordance with Timekeeping Manual MP-6 part V of Nursing Service employees in an accurate and complete manner. Responsible for entering schedules, daily time posting, entering overtime, compensatory time requests, and associated leave. Assists in training supervisors on payroll process and regulations. Prepares exception reports for the service each pay period and works with administrative nursing staff to ensure these are cleared. Assures disposition of records complies with federal regulations and privacy policies. Performs work involving the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information to support Nursing Service processes. Prepares, executes, and/or tracks program specific information, such as attendance and leave records, workman's compensation documents, authorized absence requests and other resource utilization documents. Uses software applications to draw information related to workload, e.g., for Decision Support Software, VistA, and ASSITS, in order to prepare/assist in preparation of reports. Compiles information and reports in written format and graphically using varied programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. The incumbent maintains contacts with patients, staff, and other individuals within and outside the medical center in a concerned, compassionate, respectful and helpful manner. Demonstrates regard for privacy and confidentiality in all matters in accordance with all applicable policies and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/05/2018.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5 The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Skilled in operating a typewriter, word processer, fax machine, electronic mail, Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint; capable of designing spreadsheets for statistical information; receives schedules; reviews outgoing& incoming mail; receives phone calls from congressional offices; screens all visitors, makes travel arrangements; takes notes at all meetings; serves as timekeeper.

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform duties. Some walking, standing, and carrying of light objects such as files, books, and papers is required. No special physical qualifications are required.

Education

There is no educational substitution at this grade level.
