Duties

Help
  • Provides leadership, oversight, and vision for federal and contract employees performing planning, development, implementation, configuration, optimization, operation, and maintenance of server systemss for 1,600 users in 60+ locations world-wide.
  • Oversees server infrastructure and services consisting of Active Directors, Exchange E-mail, Domain Name Servers, SharePoint, Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Network, Oracle and SQL database servers, data backup, print and file servers.
  • Plans and executes distribution of patches and updates to all server and client systems.
  • Develops and monitors a program for continued availability of server services and backup of data to support Continuity of Operations (COOP) and disaster recovery.
  • Ensures continuing monitoring, review, and modernization of server systems, identification of improvements and upgrades to comply with Service Level Agreements.
  • Enhances and optimizes services and system performance; initiates corrective actions or improvements to avoid or minimize service delays.

  • Only experience obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
  • Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).
  • Information Assurance Manager Level III certification.
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a supervisory probationary period, you will be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position. Your resume and work experience should clearly support your ability to meet these competencies and will be evaluated as part of the entire application process.

Attention to Detail - experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data and have been responsible for reviewing the work of others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.

Customer Service - developing and maintaining relationships with customers, anticipating and assessing the current and future information technology needs of customers, and developing or identifying information technology products or services that are tailored to meet customer needs.

Oral Communication - briefing senior-level management and IT staff on the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of complex technical information to a non-technical audience.

Problem Solving - identifying alternatives to address unique, highly complex, or sensitive information technology-related issues. I have anticipated information technology-related problems and have identified and evaluated potential sources of information to generate alternative solutions.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. Specialized Experience is defined as: primary responsibility for leadership and oversight of IT personnel managing the planning, operations, maintenance, and improvements of server systems in a an enterprise environment; Oversees server infrastructure and services consisting of Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, Domain Name Servers (DNS), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN), Oracle and SQL; Manages development of IT requirements, contracts, and documentation; Ensures implementation and adherence to information assurance requirements and industry best practices.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at this level.
