Duties

Help

As a Research Entomologist (Bilingual) you will:

  • Plan, organize, and direct scientific efforts for research problems that are recognized as extensive obstacles to progress and that have been particularly unyielding to research analysis.
  • Serve as an expert researcher, authority, and consultant on an insecticide resistance research project having extensive impact on major national and international agencies' research programs.
  • Conduct, coordinate, plan, implement and evaluate extramural scientific investigations and analyses.
  • Lead development of new approaches or databases to capture and analyze data related to the research project.
  • Provide technical consultation and advice on very difficult problems, program evaluation and assessment, lead technical work groups and resolve problem areas.

  • Research position: Yes: Since this is a research position, an evaluation of the scientific contributions, recognition and professional standing of the researcher as they relate to the position being filled will be made to determine qualifications. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology. OR have a combination of experience and education, courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in planning, designing, and executing research studies on insecticide resistance in order to develop strategies for the control of parasitic and/or vector borne diseases.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In addition to meeting the above basic and minimum qualification requirements, you must be fluent in English and French (i.e. oral and written communications). Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are special qualification requirements, in addition to the basic and minimum requirements, that are essential in successfully performing the duties of this job.
