Duties

Help

Perform any combination of the following duties, as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent, to maintain grounds and turf of golf course in playing conditions; to apply prescribed amounts of fertilizer, seed.  Exercise care not to injure turf or shrubs. Cut turf on green and tee areas, fairways, rough and banks, using lightweight power mowing equipment.  Connect hose and sprinkler systems at designated points on course to irrigate turf, digs and rakes ground to prepare new greens, grade, and traps, and repair roadbeds, using shovel, rakes, spades, and other tools.  May plant, trim trees and shrubs. Weed and maintain sand traps and flower gardens.

75%    Maintenance (Upkee p of the Grounds):  Water, whip, aerify, seed, fertilize fairways, golfing greens and putting greens.  Water, repair, fertilize and seed the driving range area. Cut, water, fertilize trees and shrubs.  Maintain sand traps and water holes.  Perform corrective maintenance on structures and facilities used by the golfers.  Change cups and set up course for daily play.

20%              Maintenance (General):  Maintenance and upkeep of golf course maintenance buildings which may include sweeping floors and other housekeeping procedures.  Help Mechanic by washing equipment, greasing, checking and changing oil and sharpening rotary blades.

5%      Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Possess sound basic knowledge in the operation of lawnmowers, greens mowers, hand tools and other equipment assigned to the upkeep of the grounds.  Basic knowledge of the game of golf.   Experience in golf course and grounds maintenance is desirable. Ability to perform manual labor.  Ability to learn golf maintenance procedures.  Must be 18 years old or older to operate equipment with exposed moving parts.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
