As a Wildlife Refuge Specialist, you will be responsible for:
Planning, implementing, providing oversight and reporting of biological and habitat management, habitat restoration projects, invasive species management, prescribed fire management, and other programs.
Working with the refuge manager and staff in development of habitat management plans, visitor services plans, and NEPA documents.
Managing and conducting refuge public use programs including hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and photography, and interpretive and educational programs.
Entering, extracting, and interpreting data from specialized IT programs/systems for responding to data calls, planning facility maintenance and developing annual work plans.
Performing administrative duties such as timekeeping, travel, procurement, budgeting, and property management.
Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform the same kind of duties as described above, but under closer supervision and training will be provided for progression towards the full performance level (GS-9). Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
This Position Has A Positive Education Requirement. You must meet A, B or C below to qualify for the position.
A. Bachelor's or higher degree in zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; 3 semester hours in botany, and 3 semester hours in conservation biology.
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in one of the fields described in A above that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; 3 semester hours in botany, and 3 semester hours in conservation biology, PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work comparable to a full four-year course of study with a major as described above. The quality of the combination demonstrates that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position.
C. Previously occupied a position in the GS-0485 series prior to December 3, 2010, and meet the basic education requirement of the previous qualification standard. Previous standard: bachelor or higher degree with major in zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology, that includes 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in wildlife; and 9 semester hours in botany. NOTE: To qualify under this option, you must submit your transcripts and a copy of your SF-50 (Personnel Action), dated prior to Dec 3, 2010, showing that you held a position in the GS-0485 series.
