Summary

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), detects and deters waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct across DOJ programs and personnel and promotes economy and efficiency in DOJ programs. Attorney Advisors within the OIG's Oversight and Review Division (O&R) conduct a broad range of investigations and reviews, including sensitive misconduct investigations of senior-level employees, examinations of high-profile DOJ law enforcement operations, and reviews of DOJ's use of national security authorities. Attorney Advisors lead multi-disciplinary teams that blend the skills of attorneys, special agents, program analysts, and paralegals. These teams produce reports and recommendations that promote individual accountability of DOJ employees and tangible improvements in DOJ operations. These teams are also responsible for conducting investigations of whistleblower retaliation allegations involving FBI employees and the employees of DOJ contractors.

Help

As an Attorney Advisor, GS-905-15, your typical work assignments will include, but are not limited to:

1. Leading teams of attorneys, investigators, and program analysts.
2. Planning, organizing, and conducting investigations regarding a wide variety of allegations.
3. Obtaining, synthesizing, and analyzing documents and testimony.
4. Making recommendations to improve DOJ operations and making referrals for potential administrative action or criminal prosecution.
5. Writing detailed reports of investigation.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • You must successfully pass an initial drug test and, if hired, you will be subject to random drug tests.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position you must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be a member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years of post-J.D. experience.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must also have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level or its equivalent. Examples of specialized experience include working as a lead attorney on complex investigations, drafting and filing complex motions, briefs, or other legal memoranda, and drafting reports of investigation containing in-depth analysis of issues presented.
