Duties

Help

As a Security Specialist (Operations Security) at the GS-0080-12 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serve as the DTRA/Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Organization (JD) Operations Security Specialist performing the full range of duties pertinent to establishing, implementing, and maintaining the DTRA/JD OPSEC Program.
  • Perform duties in the field of security administration which involve security programs ranging from Physical Security, Personnel Security, Information Security, Antiterrorism/Force Protection; Sensitive Compartmented Information Security, and Special Access Program (SAP) Security, program management, and security policy development.
  • Serve as a Security Specialist (team member and team leader) for security Staff Assistance Visits (SAVs).
  • Inspects, analyzes, and evaluates security systems and vulnerabilities.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS 12 grade level if you fulfill the following qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Managing Operation Security (OPSEC) Program.
  • Conducting Operation Security (OPSEC) reviews of all material being considered for public release.
  • Developing OPSEC Plans for inclusion in Program Protection Plans and assists Program Managers in identifying Critical Program Information.
  • Coordinating OPSEC Surveys of subordinate components; Conduct OPSEC Assessments.
  • Utilizing basic knowledge of other security disciplines to include Information Security, Physical Security, Industrial Security, Personnel Security, Antiterrorism/Force Protection, and Special Access Program Security.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
