Help
  • You will plan, research, and prepare original studies, monographs, and other products that furnish detailed historical background and perspective to current and historic Navy issues.
  • You will plan, prepare, conduct, abstract, and transcribe oral history interviews that furnish detailed historical background and perspectives to current and historic Navy issues.
  • You will respond to historical inquiries from the command, other Navy and Defense Department units and organizations, veteran organizations, and the general public.
  • You will provide interpretive and intellectual support for public outreach functions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history; OR a combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Historian performing the following duties: 1) Conducting basic research on historical topics; 2) Collecting, analyzing and evaluating historical facts and determining the relative importance of historical evidence; and 3) Preparing basic history studies on specific topics; OR have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree. https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/unique-hiring-paths/students/federal-occupations-by-college-major/; OR have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree. https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/unique-hiring-paths/students/federal-occupations-by-college-major/; OR have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:
You are eligible for this appointing authority if you are an individual who: Completed, within the previous two years, an associate's bachelor's, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.

If you are a veteran who was unable to apply within two years of receiving your degree due to military service obligation, you have as long as six years after degree completion to apply.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. Applications will be accepted from students who expect to complete qualifying education within 9 months from the date of application. PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
Recent Graduates may be non-competitively converted to a permanent position in the competitive service (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
Be a US Citizen
Successfully completed at least 1 year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the program.
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Grad will be converted.
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted.
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and Perform their job successfully.

EXPECTED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT: - Orientation program for Recent Graduates hired for the program.
Mentorship throughout the program.
Individual Development Plan to create and track Recent Graduates' career planning, professional development, and training activities.
At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the program.
Positions offer opportunity for career advancement.

The Pathways appointment has promotion potential to the GS-11. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
