The US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) is a Customer-Driven, Customer-Focused organization, and is internationally known as a preeminent provider of research, development, engineering and integration services in the areas of soldier and squad protection and systems integration, military rations and field feeding equipment, military parachuting and airdrop systems, and expeditionary basing. Through our research in areas such as materials sciences, biochemistry, human performance and human sciences; technology development and integration; and systems engineering, product development and support, the NSRDEC plays a vital role in maximizing the effectiveness of America's military. Duties

Help
  • Serves as Branch Chief reporting directly to the SPOD Director.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and exploiting basic and applied research involving physical and/or cognitive Soldier optimization Science and Technology.
  • Establishes and communicates technology transition strategies.
  • Performs periodic management reviews of projects within the branch to monitor cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Reviews and evaluates research proposals and necessary program documentation in accordance with established annual business process schedule.
  • Maintains and grows important customer/partnership relationships for the NSRDEC serving as a senior directorate representative to external customers/partners and various stakeholder groups.
  • Maintains critical liaison activities and evaluates developments across academia, the DoD, and other Federal agencies, allied nations and international organizations to leverage the most advanced research, industrial and military developments.
  • Reviews and approves branch manpower plans.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL ENGINEER SERIES 0801 (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification):
A. Bachelor's Degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. B. Combination of Education/Experience: college level education/experience that furnished (1) knowledge of physical/mathematical science underlying professional engineering & (2) understanding (theoretical/practical) of engineering sciences/techniques & applications to a branch of engineering. This must be demonstrated by: (1) Professional Engineer Registration or (2) Written test or (3) Specific Academic Courses - 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, & engineering sciences or (4) Related Curriculum - Completion of bachelor's degree in engineering technology/professional field provided applicant has 1 year of professional engineering experience under professional engineering supervision/guidance.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR PSYCHOLOGIST SERIES 0180 (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification):
A. Completed a four year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with a major or equivalent in Psychology

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR PHYSICAL SCIENTIST SERIES 1301 (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification):
A. Bachelor's Degree: physical sciences, engineering or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics;
OR
B. A combination of education and experience: course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves organizing and directing basic and applied research involving physical and/or cognitive optimization Science and Technology efforts; experience in planning project programs involved with manpower, milestones, funding schedules; and experience in building customer/partnership initiatives between different organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-04 (DB-04 is equivalent to GS-14 through GS-15 grade level).

  • Incumbent must sign an Acquisition Corps 3 year written tenure agreement to remain in this position in the Federal service, unless a tenure agreement waiver is granted.
