Summary

The District of Columbia Courts consists of the Court of Appeals, the Superior Court, and the Court System. DC Courts constitutes the Judicial Branch of the District of Columbia Government, and is separate and distinct from the Executive and Legislative Branches.

The Courtroom Support and Quality Control Branch is responsible for the management, operation and quality assurance of all courtrooms in the Family Court Operations Division. This position is open for the Summer semester starting in June 2018.



The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.

Duties

Help

This position is an unpaid internship. The interns' major duties are below:

  • Assists the courtroom clerks with the management and operations of the courtroom.
  • Checks in attorneys and parties.
  • Makes and distributes copies of court orders.
  • Scans pleadings and other court documents.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sealed and confidential case types.
  • Updates official court record; transports case files.
  • Assists judicial officers, management and staff as needed.

  • Must submit to a background and/or security investigation
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be enrolled as a degree - seeking student
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Must commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week.

To qualify for this position, you must submit the following:

Qualifications

Applicant must be in the third or fourth year of their undergraduate program or enrolled in a graduate or law school program. The student must be in good standing at their university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and able to commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week throughout the Summer.

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts are required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.

Education
