Duties

Help
  • Develops policies and direction of the Department of Defense criminal investigations oversight programs.
  • Supervise/leads a staff of criminal and administrative investigators and support staff.
  • Conducts and directs the planning, execution, and reporting on evaluations of criminal investigations relating to violent and non-violent crimes.
  • Conducts and directs criminal investigations as specified by the Inspector General.

  • Position has been designated as Top secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) ; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Security Clearance
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense (DoD) OIG.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service
  • This is an Excepted Service position
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical exam and a pre-employment physical readiness test. An annual physical exam and semi-annual physical readiness test may be required for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires qualifications to carry and use government-owned firearms as part of assigned duties (and maintain this qualification).
  • The applicant selected for this position must be able to qualify and maintain authorization to carry firearms including no current or previous domestic violence charges/convictions.
  • Employees are ineligible for this position if, at any time, they have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless the conviction was expunged, set aside, or he/she received a pardon.
  • Incumbent will be required to work, or be available to work substantial amounts of unscheduled overtime duty based on the needs of the agency.
  • Incumbent may be required to complete 14 weeks of Criminal Investigator Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the Federal Government in a similar position (i.e., Supervisory), you will be required to serve a two year probationary period.
  • Requires 15% of temporary duty travel (TDY).
  • Required to submit a financial disclosure form at time of appointment and annually.
  • Requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You must have 52 weeks of experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level in the federal service. The specialized experience will demonstrate experience in investigation of violent and non-violent crimes. Applicant must have experience in conducting criminal oversight evaluations and developing conclusions, recommendations and final reports. Applicant must also have experience in the supervision and/or lead a group of criminal and administrative investigators.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications:

Experience with managing and leading a team comprised of criminal and administrative investigators and support staff; ability to make sound technical and administrative decisions under pressure and to meet changing priorities and deadlines; experience in the formulation of policies, procedures, and standards of investigations; ability to communicate with senior staff and supervisors regarding investigative programs; ability to analyze problems, gather pertinent data and make recommendations for solution; proficient in writing investigative reports; knowledge of governmental budgeting and program management; extensive knowledge of criminal investigative policy, procedures and techniques.
