Summary
- Applies expert Knowledge and experience to serve as the managing Editor responsible for synchronizing, integrating, and crafting published reports to be submitted to Congress on military, humanitarian, and diplomatic topics directly related to overseas contingency operations. Operations Freedom's Sentinel (Afghanistan), Inherent Resolve (Iraq,Syria), and Pacific Eagle-Philippines.
- Oversees editorial operations and leads a staff that develops, writes, re-writes, and edits content in support of timely publications of quarterly reports on three overseas contingency operations; known as Operation Freedom's Sentinel (Afghanistan), Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq/Syria), and Operation Pacific Eagle-Philippines.
- Each report represents an original effort requiring the incumbent to be able to apply knowledge of overseas contingency operations to include areas of strategy, funding, contracting, services, and programs related to the military, diplomatic, and humanitarian efforts; have an understanding of Federal Government oversight reporting requirements; and demonstrate the ability to serve as a managing editor for comprehensive, complex, and sensitive publications of national and Congressional interest and to immediately contribute in a significant manner to the production process.
- Reports are coordinated among other Federal agencies and are released to Congress and published on a public web site. The reports may impact national and international funding, perception, policy and strategy. Represents the Office to senior leaders of other Federal agencies in the preparation, coordination, and execution of OCO oversight activities. Leads discussions about projects, activities, and mission requirements; presents briefings to vested parties at all stages of project execution.
This position is being filled using 5 U.S. Code subsection 3161 authority. This excepted service position is temporary and available for 24-months. This temporary position may be terminated early or extended beyond the 24-month period based upon incumbent performance and the needs of the OIG/Lead IG mission.
Contingency Operations employees may be required to travel to contingency operations locations, such as Southwest Asia. Travel will include benefits, such as danger pay, post differential, overtime and other relocation incentives. All candidates must meet specific requirements set forth by the related Combatant Command, such as CENTCOM, to be qualified to travel.
