Duties

Help

1. Provide emergency medical care as part of a response team intervening with basic and advanced equipment.
2. Provide emergency assessment when arriving on the scene while ensuring proper procedures related to basic and advanced life support emergency medical treatment.
3. Utilize Standards of Care and advanced life support in the assessment, maintenance and performance of emergency care and medications as directed.
4. Proficiency in mass casualty arena using a wide range of advanced emergency medical interventions and for further reporting of observations and care given.

Qualifications

Applicants must understand that the work performed is primarily related to readiness for and deployment for response during the aftermath of a disaster or public health emergency, where work may be field-based, that may be remote and austere, caring for sick, injured, dying, or deceased persons. This work requires above average health, physical, and mental conditioning with routine long periods of repetitive walking, bending, lifting, and carrying, such as carrying NDMS equipment or heavy patients on litters. Incumbent must be capable of working in a high stress, high-security, remote, austere, and uncharacterized environment, void of infrastructure and vital services, requiring specific physical demands, such as the ability to lift 50 pounds, and work characteristics that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. For these reasons, employees are required to complete a physical and health screening process to meet and maintain certain physical standards, as well as mental, behavioral, and cognitive competencies.

This is a Standing Register - Open Continuous Announcement and will have an initial cutoff on 04/13/18, a second cutoff will be 05/18/18, third cutoff will be 06/22/18, with a final cutoff on 08/31/18. The vacancy will close on September 30, 2018. Applications received AFTER a cutoff date will be considered in the next group of candidates .


To qualify for this position, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:

One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal Service providing emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients, providing basic and advanced life support to assess patients' conditions to administer treatment; and utilizing proper pharmacological practices and Standards of Care to calculate dosages and administer medications.

In addition:
1. Current certification/registration with national Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - or - state government certification authority as an Emergency medical Technician (Paramedic).
2. Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification endorsed by American Heart Association (AHA).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
