Summary

As a Student Trainee, you will actively participate in on-the-job training and progressively challenging assignments that relate to your academic program, career goals, and the needs of the agency.

These are TEMPORARY SUMMER HIRE POSITIONS not to exceed 30-SEPTEMBER-2018. Employment dates are approximately MAY through SEPTEMBER. Actual length of employment is contingent upon budget and workload. In some cases, the appointments may be extended in 120-day increments without further competition.

Duties

Help

Performing a broad range of clerical duties to include typing, filing, answering routine customer questions, compiling data, preparing or making changes to documents and/or forms.
Performing routine mathematical calculations, conducting basic research, checking documents for errors, verifying discrepancies with appropriate individual(s).
Entering data into automated systems, preparing/formatting charts/graphs/reports, monitoring/updating status.
Assisting higher level employees in support of various administrative programs.

  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student.
  • Must be taking at least half-time course load, as defined by your school.
  • Remain in good academic standing in accordance with Participant Agreement.
  • Selective Service Requirements: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • Transcript must state major, earned credit hours, and cumulative GPA.
  • Security Requirements: SECRET. Must be found suitable for Federal employment.

Qualifications

To qualify you must meet the eligibility and education requirements. Your qualifications are evaluated based upon your total amount of COMPLETED education.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Students must be a citizen of the United States or lawfully admitted to the United States as a permanent resident or otherwise authorized to be employed.
  • Current students enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate. Students must be taking at least half-time course load, as defined by your school and remain in good academic standing in accordance with the Pathways Participant Agreement.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • GS-3 Level Qualifications: Successful completion of one academic year of post-high school education. (One academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.)
  • GS-4 Level Qualifications: Successful completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. (Two academic years of undergraduate education is defined as 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.)
  • GS-5 Level Qualifications: Successful completion of four academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Management prefers Students currently enrolled in the following degree programs: business, accounting, human resources, management, or other closely related business degree OR a degree program that provides at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management.

Education

**You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Your transcripts must indicate a passing grade to be creditable towards the required hours. Unless otherwise stated: Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at time of application.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
