Serves as Module Leader for a 10 person IA Module supervised by District Assistant Fire Management Officer. Responsibilities include safety and risk management control, and work project oversight of assistant, two lead firefighters and IA module. Makes initial size-up of wildfire situations, analyzes fire behavior, assesses risk and determines suppression method. Explains/Implements safety measures, work procedures and performs applicable administrative duties. Responsible for operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Ensures module is briefed, trained and fit for initial and extended attack. Cooperates with a variety of partners, both internal and external. Performs other duties as assigned.

DRUG TESTING: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Selectee must submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random testing thereafter. Final appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results for illegal drug use.
This position has been identified as High or Moderate or Low Complexity under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) or Forest Service Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) and is subject to selective placement factor requirements contained in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard and Guide when filling this vacancy. IFPM or FS-FPM selective placement factors are made up of a primary and secondary National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) core Incident Management Qualifications and Required Training. The applicant must possess these qualifications at the applicable complexity level to be considered eligible for this position.
Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
WORK CAPACITY TEST (WCT) for Wildland Firefighters: This position participates in wildland firefighting activities. Based on the type of work performed, TAKING and PASSING the WCT at the ARDUOUS level is a "condition of employment." The Arduous fitness (Pack) test requires completing a three (3) mile hike within forty-five (45) minutes, while carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack. You are strongly encouraged to consult with your physician and begin training immediately if applying for this position. This announcement constitutes the required 30 days advanced notice for testing requirements.
Qualifications
You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided if qualifications are based on education above the high school level. GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level; or one year of graduate level education in a position-related field of forestry or natural resources management; or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Recognized, reacted to, and communicated changes in predicted weather and fire behavior, topography and fuel types, and adapted planned strategies and tactics to identify and relocate firelines, escape routes, and safety zones; Served as a crew leader for a small fire crew responsible for the suppression of wildland fires and/or fuels management duties; Conducted initial evaluation of fire situation and determined suppression method to use; Conducted formal training in the techniques of fire suppression, prescribed burning, and other slash disposal methods.
Selective Placement Factors:
Primary firefighter positions include the following age requirements: Under age 37 -OR- less than age 37 after subtracting the months of Federal Service worked in a primary or secondary firefighter/law enforcement position -OR- a veteran preference eligible, older than age 37 and is requesting a waiver to the maximum age requirement -OR- eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act, older than 37, and requesting a waiver to the maximum age requirement.
Successfully completed the Primary NWCG Core Requirement of Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).
Successfully completed the Secondary NWCG Core Requirement of Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5).
