OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.

The incumbent is a Supervisory IT Specialist and serves as an advisor to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) on the development, implementation, and management of IT and telecommunication initiatives and information processing systems, including electronic data processing, word processing and electronic telecommunications. The incumbent provides supervision for the assigned section with specialists stationed throughout the country at various co-located facilities. The incumbent administers, develops, delivers, and supports information technology systems and services which require knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods. Acts as a senior liaison between OIG field sites and local Veterans Benefit Administration, Veterans Health Administration Information Resources Management and Telecommunications Support.

Help

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:

  • Assign and coordinate the work of the assigned section to diagnose sources of service interruptions and to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee, monitor, and control all system maintenance and repair activities as well as software and hardware enhancements.
  • Monitor and coordinate a full service customer support unit that diagnoses and resolves complex problems in response to customer reported incidents.
  • Serve as the technical authority and consultant for the Chief Information Officer and OIG field sites concerning various IT topics.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Experience working in an information technology (IT) unit that provides a wide-range of customer support (service desk), configures hardware and software, and procures IT equipment, AND
  • Experience managing at least three major information technology projects, to include setting priorities for other staff members and/or contractors, planning work to be completed, and providing performance feedback, AND
  • Experience collaborating with external and internal stakeholders to establish IT-specific policies and procedures.
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
