Manage nationwide programs of medical care program evaluation and inspection activities, covering the broad scope of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) patient care activities at the Headquarters level, the VHA networks, and more than 1,000 VHA healthcare facilities.
Ensure that the OIG’s program evaluations of VHA medical care program activities assist the Department in taking a leadership role in the rapidly growing and diversifying national healthcare reform arena.
Serve as a medical expert and consultant in patient care and mental health issues, relating to critical evaluations of episodes of clinical care and developing formal opinions as to appropriateness and quality of treatment provided, in conjunction with clinical case inspections by regional offices, other elements of OHI, or by AIG request.
Provide leadership and direction to OHI regional office inspectors to ensure that the clinical employees provide expert research-based support in medical care program issues to other OHI organizational elements and to OIG region and central office audit and investigations staff; in order to improve the OIG’s coverage of medical care program activities.
