About the Position:
This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal, US Army Aviation & Missile Command, US Army Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment Activity (TMDE). The U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity (USATA) has the primary organizational responsibility of performing the test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) calibration and repair support mission (C&RS) for the Army, other DOD claimants, and thousands of industrial based customers.
This position provides the employee with full benefits, vacation and sick leave. Duties

Help
  • Calibrate all types of electronic, electrical, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimension measurement systems.
  • Interpret electronic principles to collect, reduce, display and analyze calibration data.
  • Utilize knowledge of computer operating systems to operate automated calibration systems.
  • Adapt standards to available calibration procedures.
  • Provide feedback to management, customers and US Army TMDE Support Activity (USATAG).
  • Prepare calibration reports.
  • Interpret technical procedure and schematics to adapt them to special purpose test, measurement and diagnostic equipment assignments.
  • Determine proper calibrations operations to be used.
  • Repair test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with procedural changes as well as policies, personnel and other management programs.
  • Identify cause of discrepancies/deficiencies.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen out Element): Ability to do the work of a Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: calibrate and repair precision measurement equipment; interpret technical procedures and schematics and adapt them to diverse and complex calibration assignments; apply practical knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and practices to diagnose and repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
