Joining the Secret Service, Office of Strategic Intelligence & Information, Protective Intelligence & Assessment Division will allow you to use your expertise in applying investigative research, analysis and assessment to support the leadership and intelligence mission of the Secret Service. Help

The selectee will serve as an Intelligence Operations Specialist (Protective) in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information, Protective Intelligence & Assessment Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Preparing and reviewing comprehensive recommendations regarding the modification of Branch policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency; and identifying issues, coordinating research, and preparing position papers, memoranda, etc.
  • Conducting continuing evaluations of the effectiveness and adequacy of Branch programs, operations, work methods, and techniques; and developing new types of protective intelligence products in response to customer’s needs.
  • Advising higher-level staff on the implications and feasibility of program plans, proposals, and recommendations.
  • Developing analytical standards and advises on training curriculum; and identifying training needs as it relates to complex training concepts regarding emerging trends in groups, threats, tactics, and technology.

  • The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required; there may be prolonged periods of stress due to short suspense and high priority projects; and the incumbent may work extended hours to complete special projects or time sensitive tasks.
  • The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office; the incumbent may be required to work holidays, weekend days, and/or night and may be exposed to adverse conditions when performing temporary duty assignment and/or traveling within the United States or abroad to provide intelligence support.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel domestically and/or internationally.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-14 level (starting salary $114,590) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level performing duties such as: leading a staff in order to plan, direct and coordinate work of others; planning, directing and coordinating protective intelligence collection, production and dissemination; researching and preparing studies and policy decision papers reflective of various protective intelligence research; and reviewing program initiatives and recommending changes.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience)Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

  • Ability to develop, direct, manage, and evaluate intelligence programs.
  • Ability to meet and deal with personnel at all levels as well as with groups and individuals in other intelligence and law enforcement agencies and organization.
  • Ability to apply intelligence analytical standards across a wide range of protective intelligence products and identify deficiencies in training needs of staff.
