  • Appraise and implement retention schedule for archives.
  • Arrange records in both digital and analog form.
  • Provide general guidance and specialized reference services related to all materials in Special Collections & Archives.
  • Determine the suitability of records for digital preservation.

  • This position may require arranging and describing manuscript collections and archival records requires lengthy periods of detail-oriented concentration filing papers and folders, boxes, books, and other materials.
  • This position may require reading, sitting, walking, standing, pushing, bending, and lifting to perform various duties.
  • The work involves everyday risks or discomforts typically associated with libraries, offices, meeting and training rooms.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess A) Must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

OR Must have a combination of education and experience with at least 30 semester hours of courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, GS-09 - your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing archival theory and practice including accessioning, processing, and preservation as applied to analog and digital assets; 2) Maintaining archive records retention; 3)Using digital scanning, image editing, and format conversion to preserve archives; and 4) Analyzing current conservation and preservation methods and implement updates as needed.

OR Have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.

OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.


Basic Requirements for this position, GS-11 - your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing applications, HTML, XML, DACS, EAD, EAC-CPF and digitalization technologies to store, preserve and search archival records; 2) Converting analog to digital, including photographs, films, text and sound recording while maintaining the preservation of original formats of permanent records during electronic or digital processing; 3) Determining archive records retention based on informational and historical value; and 4) Developing an electronic records program, including the creation of workflows for the acquisition, appraisal, ingest, description, access, and preservation of digitized archival information.

OR Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a PhD. or equivalent degree.

OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
