The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Performing chemical and physical analysis of materials under close supervision.
  • Using laboratory techniques and a variety of laboratory instruments under close supervision.
  • Performing calibration of analytical instruments following written procedures using appropriate standards.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final confidential security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This position requires occasional travel.
The incumbent will be climbing stairs and ladders, and occasional lifting of articles up to 50 pounds may be required.
Backshifts, weekends, and work-shifts longer than 8 hours may be required.

The incumbent may be required to maintain radiation or contamination worker qualifications.
Laboratory work involves regular and recurring exposure to irritant chemicals and to ionizing radiation, and the incumbent may be assigned to work in an area where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
