Duties

Help

  • Works with executives as a team member in defining corporate communication strategies and framework based on DFAS mission, vision, strategic goals and themes.
  • Supports senior leadership communication (i.e., Operations Directorate, Corporate Organizations and Strategy and Support) strategies by coordinating shared communication and implementing new collaboration methods in order to give clear voice to the DFAS message.
  • Integrates corporate communication plan into enterprise business model to identify communication needs, stakeholders, required messages, tools and tactics, testing and implementation approaches and evaluation procedures.
  • Identifies areas of risk and advises senior level executives, client executives, and managers on alternative approaches to organizational communication to ensure consistency of delivered message.
  • Ensures communications matrix tools identified as a part of communication planning (e.g., articles, email messages, videos, face-to-face, e-Portal, workforce meetings) are implemented in an integrated and timely way. Develops graphic materials through interpretation of the meaning of the information to be presented, points to be emphasized, relationships stressed, and sequence of presentation that will be used on the web, social media or print in various communication plans and projects.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-11) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience developing and implementing an organizational communication plan; providing recommendations on alternative approaches to organizational communication issues; and evaluating the effectiveness of the methods used to communicate with targeted audiences. Additionally, experience using graphics related software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, in order to develop web banners, brochures, and other graphics for use in presentations.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
