You must be a current SEC employee serving under a permanent career or career-conditional appointment in the Competitive or Excepted service, to be eligible to apply for the Voluntary Reassignment Program.

Eligible employees may request a reassignment to any position. Applying does not guarantee you will be eligible for the position(s) that you are applying. Your application will be reviewed to determine if your meet the qualifications for the requested position(s). In addition, the position cannot possess greater promotion potential than your current position of record.

Employees in the competitive service can request to be reassigned to positions in the excepted service if they meet the appropriate qualification requirements. Employees selected for excepted service positions will be required to serve a 2 year trial period.

Employees in the excepted service cannot request to be reassigned to positions in the competitive service unless they have held a competitive service position in the past.
